Davie Residents Allege Voter Discrimination

“I was told that I can’t vote in the Davie Election. That was a complete lie. I voted for Barack Obama in 2008 so why can’t I vote in my neighborhood. My card says I can vote.” Curtis

“They gave me a hard time when I went to vote. They would not let me change my address. I have a driver’s license, voter’s card, and a utility bill. They gave me a hard time about voting.” Marie

“I was told both EVIT machines were down. I waited more than 15 minutes for the machines to come back online or “work” before I could sign in to vote. I watched people leave the polling room because they were told the machines were down only to come back up when other people walked in the room.” Woody

“After I gave the poll worker my ID another person’s name came up. The poll worker asked me to sign above someone else name. I did not think that was right.  I told another poll worker what happened. She said the machine is not working properly. I want an investigation to see if my vote counted.” Richard

“When I went to the polls on Election Day, I was asked, “Where did all you people come from? Why do I keep seeing van, load after van, load of people coming to vote for Freda Stevens since this morning? Then they told two people with me that they could not vote. I do not understand why. They both live in El Jardin. El Jardin is in Davie District 2. They can vote in this election if they are registered. They both are registered to vote in Davie. ” Connie

“I saw Caryl Casey-Hattan walk into the polling room approximately 4 or 5 times. She had close conversations with poll workers. The poll workers did not stop her. Candidates are not supposed to enter the polling room unless they are voting. There are no bathrooms inside the polling room. There is no excuse for her blatant disregard for the law.” Deborah
